After posting a weekly loss of over 5 percent last week, the major indexes in the U.S. stock market extended their winning streak to three trading days by closing higher on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones added 39 points, or 0.16 percent, to end the day at 24,640 points, while the S&P 500 rose 6 points, or 0.26 points, to finish the day at 2,662 points.
The Nasdaq increased 31 points, or 0.45 percent, to close at 7,013 points.
Volatility has decreased and the market is on its path to find a balance, according to experts.
At the final bell, the CBOE Volatility Index with a ticker symbol VIX, which measures the market's volatility expectation in the S&P 500, was down 1.3 percent at 25.28.
The market and investors will closely watch retail sales and consumer price index (CPI) for January that will be announced on Wednesday.
The Dow and the S&P 500 both ended last week 5.2 percent lower, marking their largest weekly percentage drop since January 2016. The Nasdaq declined 5.1 percent last week, posting its biggest weekly percentage loss since February 2016.
