The u.S. stock market closed higher Monday with financial banking firms and telecommunication companies saw increase in their shares.
The Dow Jones added 72 points to end the day at 23,430 points, and the S&P 500 rose three points to finish at 2,582 points.
The Nasdaq increased seven points to close the first trading day of the week at 6,790 points.
At the final bell, American telecommunications giant Verizon's stock price was up by 1.7 percent.
Investment banking firms Citigroup and Morgan Stanley saw their shares gain by 1 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
