Two new high performance polyethylene lines were mechanically completed at ExxonMobil Chemical Company’s plastics plant at Mont Belvieu, TX, the Houston-based petrochemical company announced Monday.
Each line has 650,000 tons per year capacity to process ethylene feedstock from the new steam cracker currently under construction at the Baytown complex, the press release said.
The company expects production to begin during the third quarter of 2017, according to the company's press release.
“As an early mover to complete a polyethylene project fueled by the shale gas revolution, this facility will double the plant’s production capacity, making it one of the largest polyethylene plants in the world,” Neil Chapman, president of ExxonMobil Chemical Company said in the press release.
As previously announced by the company, the Baytown expansion project is one of 11 ExxonMobil announced as part of its 10-year, $20 billion Growing the Gulf initiative.
The company proclaimed that projects planned or those under way are expected to create more than 35,000 construction jobs and more than 12,000 full-time jobs.
The ExxonMobil Chemical Company is one of the largest petrochemical companies worldwide. It holds leadership positions in some of the largest-volume and highest-growth commodity petrochemical products in the world.
