The number of motor vehicles using diesel increased by 116 percent between 2011 and 2016 in Turkey, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute's (Turkstat) data on Friday.
The data also shows that the total number of motor vehicles registered in traffic increased by 39.5 percent in the last five years and reached 11.3 million.
The biggest increase between 2011 and 2016 was in the number of motor vehicles using diesel. In 2011, this number was 1.75 million while in 2016 it was 3.80 million, showing a 116 percent increase.
Diesel vehicles were followed by vehicles using LPG whose numbers increased by 36 percent in the last five years, from 3.25 million in 2011 to 4.43 million in 2016.
In the same period, vehicles using gasoline decreased by 0.14 percent, from 3.36 million in 2011 to 3.31 in 2016.
