The Nordex Group received a 300-megawatt turnkey order for a major wind farm project in India, the German company announced Tuesday.
Under the contract awarded by Sprng Energy Private Limited, an Indian subsidiary of the global private equity group Actis, Nordex will supply, install and commission 100 AW140/3000 turbines with 3 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity, a statement read.
Located in the state of Tamil Nadu, near the city of Coimbatore, construction of the 300 MW Mulanur wind farm is scheduled to begin in May 2019 and is due for completion at the beginning of 2020.
According to the statement, the Nordex Group will build the turbines and rotor blades in its local factories near Chennai to reduce investment costs. The 120-meter concrete towers will also be produced locally in the Nordex factory located in Tamil Nadu within the vicinity of the wind farm.
'We are excited to partner with Nordex Group and set up the state-of-the-art 3MW WTG [wind turbine generator], which will be the largest turbine in India having the biggest rotor of 140 meters, for our project,' said Gaurav Sood, CEO of Sprng Energy.
According to the press release, the Nordex Group has installed more than 23 gigawatts of wind energy capacity in over 25 markets and generated revenues of €3.1 billion in 2017.
