The launch of Sweden's largest solar park was celebrated on Tuesday when representatives from ABB, Goteborg Energi and Svea Solar symbolically installed the first photovoltaic panel, ABB said.
'The solar park in Save, outside Gothenburg, will be the largest so far in Sweden covering 11 hectares, a little less than 16 football fields, with a capacity of 5.5 megawatts,' according to a press release from the company.
The park is expected to generate approximately 5,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to satisfy the yearly electricity needs of 1,100 households. It is set for commissioning in November.
According to the statement, ABB is delivering a substation with switchgear, distribution transformers and relays, together with control equipment and inverters for the park.
Alf Engqvist, managing director at Goteborg Energi, said the park was a step towards the realization of a renewable energy system by increasing renewable electricity production.
ABB Sweden's Managing Director Johan Soderstrom added the shift to renewable energy sources in the electricity grid was ongoing given that sustainable power supply is crucial for the future.
'Advanced technology and digital solutions will play an important role in the energy transition,' he added.
