Turkey's daily natural gas consumption reached a historic record high at 243 million cubic meters in Feb. 14, according to Turkey's energy minister data on Saturday.
The country beat its previous record on Jan. 26, 2016, with a total 235 million cubic meters of natural gas consumption.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said early February that Turkey is increasingly dependent on natural gas imports because its domestic consumption, especially in the electric power sector has recently experienced significant growth.
Natural gas consumption in Turkey has increased rapidly over the past decade, reaching a new high of 1.7 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) (48.13 billion cubic meters) in 2014 compared to 1.7 Tcf in 2015, and declining less than 0.1 Tcf (2.83 billion cubic meters) from 2014,” according to the EIA report which focused on Turkey's natural gas developments.
