Spanish LNG terminal operator Reganosa's Mugardos LNG terminal at the Ferrol port in Spain received the largest LNG ship in its history on Tuesday, according to the company's press release.
Al Utouriya, a Q-Flex type LNG vessel arrived at Spain's Galicia region from Ras Laffan, in Qatar, the press release said.
The company said the arrival of this large vessel reveals the versatility of Ferrol´s terminal, which is capable of receiving both high capacity methane and small-scale units, such as the Coral Energy vessel, the maximum cargo of which is only 15,000 cubic meters.
The Mugardos LNG terminal at the Ferrol port has the capacity to provide 3.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to the Spanish transmission system.
The Q-Flex type LNG ships have the capacity to carry between 210,000 and 217,000 cubic meters of LNG.
According to the press release, Hyundai Heavy Industries built the Al Utouriya vessel at 315 meters in length and 50 meters of beam in 2008.
The ship typical of its class is equipped with advanced technology allowing it to transport 50 percent more LNG. The vessel also has 40 percent lower energy needs and has lower carbon emissions than conventional methane carriers.
