Iran’s gas exports to Turkey increased by 11 percent to 1.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) between March 21 and June 15, Iranian Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Monday.
“In the past 86 days of the current Iranian year, 21.5 million cubic meters of gas per day was exported to Turkey,” said Abdolreza Ebrahimian, head of the dispatching department of the National Iranian Gas Company.
In accordance with the Iran-Turkey joint natural gas contract, Iran exports about 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum to Turkey.
The Iran-Turkey joint gas agreement was signed in 1996 and will run until 2026.
Due to the current tense political environment between Turkey and its major natural gas supplier Russia, Turkey reduced its gas imports from Russia and increased those from Iran.
