Italian energy company announced on Tuesday that company's CEO, Claudio Descalzi met with Iraq's Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi and Oil Minister, Jabbar al-Luaibi in Baghdad on Tuesday.
The parties discussed the oil sector’s development prospects in Iraq with a special focus on the activities of the Zubair oil field, one of the largest and most important oil fields in the country, currently being operated by Eni, the company said in its press release.
According to the press release, Eni started oil, gas and water treatment operations with three new generation plants that together with existing restructured and modernized facilities. With the new facilities company increased the oil and natural gas treatment capacity of Zubair to approximately 650,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and will ensure the maximization of the associated gas utilization.
'In addition, these facilities have a water re-injection capacity of approximately 300,000 bpd that will boost Zubair’s hydrocarbons production further. In addition, the construction of a further oil treatment plant with a capacity of additional 200,000 bpd has begun.' said in press release.
Company proclaimed that, since it began operating in Iraq, it has more than doubled its output from 180,000 bpd to the current 420,000 bpd.
Eni has been present in Iraq since 2009. Production comes from the Zubair field (Eni is the operator with a 41.6 percent participation interest) that in 2016 produced 67,000 bpd net to Eni. A Technical Service Contract governs production and development activities.
