WindEurope’s Board of Directors has elected Gunnar Groebler, the senior vice president of Business Area Wind at Vattenfall as the association’s new chair, WindEurope announced late Wednesday.
According to the announcement, the Board, made up of corporate members, national associations and other organizations appointed Groebler for an 18-month term.
In his statement, Groebler said it is an exciting time for wind energy, as the sector is ideally poised to become Europe’s future electricity producer of choice.
'The technology continues to evolve and with it costs are coming down. Wind is an increasingly affordable source of power for people and businesses,' he said.
Groebler, with a mechanical engineering background, has worked in various roles at Vattenfall since 1999.
In his capacity as senior vice president, Groebler headed up Vattenfall’s wind and solar energy as well as battery operations.
He succeeds Ivor Catto, CEO of Renewable Energy Systems Ltd., as WindEurope's chairman while Tony Adam from Nordex will become the association’s new vice chair.
