China's LNG imports hit 5.99 million tons in November, marking an increase of 48.5 percent over the same month last year, customs data revealed on Sunday.
LNG imports in the first 11 months of 2018, on the other hand, were up 43.6 percent on an annual basis, hitting 47.52 million tons, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs.
In October, the country imported 4.6 million tons of LNG, an increase of 29.8 percent compared to the same month in 2017.
LNG imports for the first 10 months stood at 41.56 million tons, up 43 percent year-on-year.
- LNG imports up over 300 percent since 2010
China's LNG imports increased by more than 300 percent since 2010, according to the latest report of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies released on Dec. 10.
The Outlook for Natural Gas and LNG in China in the war Against Air Pollution showed that China imported 9.46 billion cubic meters (bcm) of LNG in 2010.
This LNG trend increased in China year by year and reached 39.59 bcm in 2017, 318.5 percent more than the import levels of 2010, the report revealed.
According to the findings, the country, which is actively trying to replace coal with cleaner natural gas, and is among the world’s top three natural gas importers, will consume more gas in the coming years.
