The stock market opened lower Monday with a decline in crude oil prices.
The Dow fell 22 points to begin trading at 21,184 points and the S&P 500 lost 3 points to 2,435 points.
The Nasdaq slipped 6 points to start the first trading day of the new week at 6,298 points.
At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $47.11 a barrel, while international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $49.33 per barrel -- both were down 1.3 percent.
