Sonatrach and Eni inaugurated the Bir Rebaa North 10-megawatt (MW) solar plant on Sunday in Algeria, Eni announced.
According to the announcement, Eni and Sonatrach, through a subsidiary of Sonatrach Spa, GSA (Groupement Sonatrach-Agip), will together operate the plant.
'The companies have also signed an agreement to expand the scope of their cooperation by establishing a new joint venture that is fully dedicated to Algeria’s renewable energy sector,' the company statement read.
The partnership aims to install and operate solar power production units at Sonatrach’s and Eni’s production sites, as well as in other locations in Algeria.
'Eni is present in Algeria since 1981 and currently operates 32 mining permits in the country, with an equity production of 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, making the company the country’s main international player,' Eni said.
