Greenhouse gas emissions intensity in Eni's upstream operations has declined by 15 percent since 2014, in line with the target of a 43 percent reduction by 2025 compared with 2014, according to Italian oil giant Eni's report.
According to Eni's 12th Sustainability Report, Eni for 2017 - released on Wednesday, fugitive methane emissions from production almost halved from one year earlier, and fell by 66 percent compared with 2014.
The company said out the €185 million investment in Research & Development, €72 million was made for decarbonization initiatives. In addition, €70.7 million was dedicated to community investment such as health, education, and socio-economic empowerment.
Eni's Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi said in the statement that 'integrating all aspects of sustainability in our businesses is crucial to deliver on the company's commitment to reduce greenhouse emissions'.
He added that sustainability would bring value to Eni and to countries where the company operates by reducing risks and opening up new opportunities.
