Italian company Enel, through its Peruvian renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Peru (EGPP), began operations of its 180-megawatt Rubi solar PV plant, the company announced on Wednesday.
Once fully operational, Peru’s largest and Enel’s first solar facility in the country will be able to generate around 440 gigawatt-hours of power per year, according to the company.
Enel invested around $170 million in the construction of the facility, which is located in the city of Moquegua in Peru’s southern province of Mariscal Nieto.
The project is financed through Enel Group’s own resources and the European Investment Bank.
It is also supported by a 20-year power purchase agreement signed with Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Enel Group’s installed capacity in the Peruvian generation sector is around 2 gigawatts, while the company also operates in the country’s distribution sector serving 1.4 million customers in the country’s central coastal region of Lima.
