Turkey's electricity generation from geothermal sources has doubled between 2012 and October 2014.
Turkey generated 1,770 gigawatt hours of electricity from geothermal sources as of October 2014, rising from 2012's figure of 899 gigawatt hours.
Installed capacity of Turkey's fifteen geothermal plants which generate electricity increased from 18 megawatts by the end of 2002 to 405 megawatts by October 2014.
Geothermal usage in greenhouse heating increased to an area covering 3,130 decacres representing a 526 percent raise. In domestic heating, geothermal usage rose to nearly 90 thousand houses with a 198 percent increase.
By the end of October 2014, 96 geothermal fields - 16 of which were for electricity generation and 80 for heating and thermal tourism - were transferred from the public sector to private investors.
