Only 10 percent of households in Turkey have electric generators to use in case of a blackout, said an industry expert Monday.
Turkey has started to experience electricity outages in more than 30 cities on Tuesday.
'Only 10 percent of Turkish households have generators to produce electricity,' said Aksa Jenerator's Ankara General Director Tarik Ceyhan told the Anadolu Agency.
'25 to 30 percent of corporate offices have generators, while 70 percent of government institutions use generators to produce electricity during blackouts,' he added.
Ceyhan emphasized that large industry-type diesel-run generators can produce electricity up to a month if they are fueled regularly and their maintenance are carried out periodically.
However, he said that gasoline-run generators can produce electricity for 3 to 4 hours before they should be shut down after an hour.
Ceyhan reminded that 98 percent of the gas stations in Turkey also have electric generators.
'The importance of generators are revealed at such crucial times,' he explained, urging corporations, institutions, and households to obtain generators in case of blackouts.
