The Czech privately owned energy company EPH agreed with German utility Enercity and German energy company BS Energy on the sale of Kraftwerk Mehrum, the owner of Germany’s Mehrum coal-fired power plant, EPH announced on Tuesday.
EPH, through its subsidiary company EP Power Europe, will acquire the shares of the company and will take over control of the plant in the next few weeks.
The contract was signed last Saturday, Sept.16, the company said.
The Mehrum plant lies in the central land channel in Mehrum, approx. 20 kilometers to the east of Hanover.
The plant has an installed capacity of 750 megawatts and employs about 120.
EPH generates over 100 terawatt-hours of power annually, which places it as the seventh largest power producer in Europe.
The transaction is subject to German merger clearance and is expected to close by the end of October.
