Turkey's electricity consumption grew by 6 percent in October compared to the same month last year, according to Turkey's Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS) on Saturday.
The country's power consumption increased to 23.2 billion kilowatt-hours in October compared to the same month of 2016.
Turkey produced 23.3 gigawatt-hours of electricity in October 2017 - a production increase of 8 percent compared to the same month of 2016.
Turkey produced 44.2 percent of October's electricity from natural gas power plants while 10 percent came from hydro plants and 19.5 percent from imported coal.
Local coal plants contributed 16.8 percent to electricity generation, wind plants constituted 5.7 percent and the remaining 3.8 percent of electricity production was generated from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.
- Electricity imports decrease by 65 percent
Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by 65 percent reaching 152.10 million kilowatt-hours as opposed to 429.98 million kilowatt-hours in October last year.
Furthermore, Turkey's electricity exports to neighboring countries increased by 70 percent with 324.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electricity exports in October last year amounted to 190.27 million kilowatt-hours.
