Russian mining company Mechel's coal output decreased by 5 percent in the second quarter of 2012, compared to the same period of 2017, the company said on Wednesday.
Mechel said that it produced 4.726 million tonnes of crude steel in the second quarter of this year.
'Renewal of mining equipment at Mechel’s coal facilities enabled us to attain stable mining levels and we plan to maintain this work pace until this year’s end,' said Oleg Korzhov, Mechel's chief executive officer.
'The decrease in mining volumes was due to a decline in thermal coal mining and re-orienting our facilities to focus on coking coals,' Korzhov said.
